Net Metering Explained
By CIVOLT Team 2 June 2025 5 min
What is Net Metering?
Net metering is a billing arrangement where your electricity meter counts BOTH what you consume from the grid AND what your solar system exports back to it. You’re billed on the net amount.
How It Works
When your solar produces more than you’re using, the excess goes to the grid (meter runs backward). At night or on cloudy days, you draw from the grid (meter runs forward). At the end of the month, you pay only for the NET consumption.
Approval Process
CIVOLT handles: DISCOM application, load sanction, technical inspection, and bi-directional meter installation. Timeline: 15–30 days depending on state.
